KINDERGARTEN
Kindergarten aged children are naturally curious. They have endless questions and love to learn new concepts and ideas. At Logos, we desire to nurture their curiosity and use it as a springboard for learning all things true, good and beautiful. The classical model starts with the grammar stage (K-5th grade). Children in this stage love to learn through repetition, routine, song, and play. Kindergarteners at Logos will learn through these methods as well. We will use the Memoria Press Curriculum for guiding much of this learning. The expectation is for an age-appropriate mastery of each skill presented, ranging from Phonics, Math, Literature (Read Alouds), Art, Science, and History.
Memoria Press provides an excellent phonics program in their First Start Reading Curriculum. The material is presented using many different methods in the classroom to help facilitate mastery, as well as ideas and support for at home learning. You can find the full scope and sequence related to this curriculum on the Memoria Press website.
Math is presented through games and activities as well, using many manipulatives and visuals to help students with different learning styles understand the material.
The remaining subjects are tied to the Literature portion of our learning, as we use themes in our read aloud books to help guide our art, science, and history studies for the week.
We begin our days with morning time, which includes some of the following: a Bible story, song, prayer, calendar, weather, manner of the week, and recitation of a scripture or poem that we are memorizing as a class. Students are regularly invited to practice public speaking using “show and tell”. The presenter learns to use a loud, clear voice and to stand still while allowing the rest of the class to practice active listening and asking good questions when the presentation is over.
At Logos our mission is to partner with parents to educate children classically, leading them to seek what is true, good, and beautiful, forming them to love and give glory to the Triune God. May God be glorified.
